As Pabst Blue Ribbon inches closer to its 200th anniversary, the historied American lager brand is making a boozy splash with a super-sized offer. Time to set the keg aside; this summer, it's all about the 180-pack.
Towering slabs of Pabst beer have begun popping up at retailers across the country to the tune of $100. Containing roughly seventeen gallons each, the 180-packs seem better suited for collectors than happy-go-lucky partiers in search of a quick fix. Appropriately, just 2,500 cases have been released.
“This limited 180 pack is a way for us to celebrate a significant milestone in Pabst history—our 180th anniversary,” Rachel Keeton, marketing director at Pabst Brewing told Forbes. “Our fans get really excited about these large promo packs, so we always try to bring something exciting or new to market.”
Gargantuan as the deal may sound, it's far from the largest bulk pack that Pabst has ever created. In fact, the brewer has made a regular habit of releasing comically oversized beer cartons (much to the delight of alcohol journalists and content creators, we might add).

The brand made headlines in 2019 with the release of a seven-foot-long 99-pack that weighed around eighty pounds. Images of customers wrangling the uncompromisingly wide pack quickly went viral on social media.
Next came the Independence Day-themed 1,776-pack, said to contain "infinite amounts of freedom." Ever eager to one-up itself, Pabst subsequently rolled out the stupendous 1,844-pack in honor of its 19th-century Milwaukee roots. Only 250 cases of its largest pack were ever released, sold through retailers for around $850.
Pabst was founded in 1844 by German-born Jacob Best Sr. alongside his sons Jacob Jr., Charles, Phillip and Lorenz. The brand derives its now-iconic name from the literal blue ribbons tied around the bottle's neck for a short period between 1882 and 1916. With its two-century anniversary on the horizon, expect to see bigger and bigger bulk packs lumbering toward consumers.
