Days ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Glenfiddich Scotch has inked a multi-year partnership with the Aston Martin Formula One team celebrating "timeless icons" in their respective fields. In addition to the usual assortment of signage and branded racecars, the collaboration is being toasted with a bespoke scotch that clocks in as one of the distiller's oldest to date.
On Wednesday, Glenfiddich announced the launch of 1959, a decades-old expression distilled the same year that Aston Martin made its Formula One debut and famously won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The liquid was reportedly drawn from a rare sherry butt casked by Gordon Grant, Glenfiddich's third-ever malt master.
Details are few and far between regarding the alcohol content, price and availability of the scotch, though the brand says it boasts rich aromas of leather, tannin and beeswax alongside flavors of cloves, dates, walnuts and Christmas pudding. Were we to do some speculating, we'd gander that it'll cost a pretty penny. Another bottling casked in the same year, Glenfiddich Private Vintage 1959, currently retails across the internet between $6,000 to $7,000.
Compare that to the brand's most recent bottling, which hit the market at a suggested price of $2,100. Considering the weight of the Aston Martin name, we wouldn't be surprised if Glenfiddich 1959 reaches $10,000 or more.
“This limited edition 1959 bottling represents a pivotal moment in history - the year Aston Martin first entered Formula One and won Le Mans. To honor this milestone, we delved deepinto the Glenfiddich archives and unearthed this exceptional expression from that very year,” malt master Brian Kinsman remarked. “It is a rare whisky that embodies the essence of this partnership, capturing the spirit of innovation and excellence that both Glenfiddich and Aston Martin have upheld for decades."
In a news release, Glenfiddich said that the expression will be officially debuted "at some point during the partnership." For more information on the forthcoming release, check out the distiller's website here.
