Nearly a year after her highly publicized divorce from singer Joe Jonas, "Game of Thrones" star Sophie Turner is playfully taking a stab at dating rumors in a summery ad spot for St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur. The collaboration represents the latest in a trend of "Thrones"-adjacent alcohol partnerships setting up shop on liquor store shelves. In the video, Turner is seen taking a seat at a luxe bar counter "somewhere in the South of France," where she tells a befuddled bartender that she's "looking for something different, fresh, fun." Continuing with double-entendre lingo that could be easily interpreted as either her cocktail or dating preferences, the actress remarks:
"I'm very particular. Has to be bright, obviously, bubbly, the type that's welcome at any party. Sweet but not too sweet... Am I asking too much or do you think I'll find it?"
Since this is an alcohol advertisement, it should come as no surprise that the answer to her woes is a St-Germain Hugo Spritz stuffed to the brim with ice, mint and a lime slice. Happy with her choice, Turner gazes out at the sea as the credits roll. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xahbvh8t2fY Invented by third-generation distiller Robert J. Cooper in 2007, St-Germain is made from a base of neutral grape spirit infused with macerated elderflower petals. Reportedly hand-picked once a year at the end of spring, the liqueur's signature addition of elderflowers imbues a floral flavor well-regarded in cocktails like the French 77 and Irish Maid. The brand was acquired by Bacardi — the spirits powerhouse behind brands like Grey Goose vodka, Bombay Sapphire gin and Patron tequila — in 2013.
"Sophie was the obvious choice for this campaign, as her refreshing charm and style embodies the sweeter, brighter and lighter taste of the St-Germain Hugo Spritz," Emma Fox, Global Vice President of St-Germain said in a news release. "As the Spritz becomes one of the top 10 most ordered cocktails according to Nielsen, we're excited to see how the new campaign and collaboration with Sophie will inspire even more people to try the sweeter, lighter tasting, and brighter Spritz."
Elsewhere, we've seen former "Game of Thrones" stars make various impressions on the spirits industry. In July, Emilia Clarke was tapped as the global brand ambassador for Pegasus Distillerie, a French producer best known for its meteorite-infused Shooting Star Vodka. Actor-owned ventures include James Comso's STORYMAN scotch whisky and Jason Momoa's Meili Vodka. If you'd like to taste the Hugo Spritz at the center of Turner's campaign, find the recipe below:
